American Behaviors That Baffle the Rest of the World

The United States is a large country with a huge amount of cultural diversity depending on which part of the nation you drive to. Tennessee isn’t California, and New Mexico definitely isn’t Illinois, to say the least. Everything from the foods, to the accents, to the greeting styles is different from one stretch of the U.S. to another. That said, when examined from a macro scale, there are definitely some common trends, customs, and habits that Americans have which, looking at them from the outside, are rather distinct and unusual. Whether it involves the way people in the U.S. eat their food, the portions they prefer, the alcohol laws, or the sheer amount of student loan debt that so many people willingly take on, there are many unusual U.S. habits different from anywhere else in the world, for better or worse.

For example, people elsewhere in the world find it weird that we tip at restaurants. They don’t understand why we wear so much U.S. flag apparel. And they absolutely hate root beer. Here are some of the habits that people in other countries notice the most. Take a look at your habits. Are they some of these unusual U.S. habits people elsewhere find strange? Don’t forget to SHARE these customs with your friends!
