For the travelers out there, culture shock is nothing more than a few hours or days worth of confusion. This confusion is neither frightening nor overwhelming… it’s rather just the time needed to acquaint oneself with a new culture. For others, we’re looking at you homebodies, culture shock occurs the moment one walks off the plane, boat, bus, or train. The introduction to a wide range of new sights, sounds, and personalities can induce wide-eyed gazes and constant head-turns – left and right at breakneck speed. Everything is new and hopefully exciting, especially if you’re encountering these bizarre practices only found in China.
